Osteopathy
Find an osteopath near you
Osteopathy is a valuable addition to traditional medicine, which relies on the healing power of the hands and manual diagnosis and therapy. It restores the balance of the body's systems without drugs or technical devices and offers holistic solutions for various complaints such as back pain and digestive disorders.
About Osteopathy
Osteopathy is increasingly becoming established in the medical world as a recognised complement to conventional medicine. Through the power of the hands alone, blockages in the body are broken down and the balance between the various systems in the body is restored. ‘Manipulative’ diagnostics and therapy pay a key role here. This holistic treatment method thus forgoes pharmaceuticals and technical examination equipment. Back pain, digestive problems and jaw pain are just a few of the many possible indications for osteopathic treatment.
Osteopathy for children
Your child’s health and well-being is very important to us. That’s why as SBK customers, you and your entire family can be partially reimbursed for osteopathy as a complement to conventional medical treatments. Children generally respond very quickly and positively to osteopathic treatment. Even as infants, children suffering from growth problems, developmental delays or digestive issues can receive osteopathic treatment as a complement to conventional medical care.

What costs are covered by the SBK?
You will be reimbursed €30 per session (for up to six treatments per calendar year) with an osteopath recognized by us.
How to get osteopathic treatment
If your osteopath is a doctor or alternative practitioner, you can visit them directly without needing a certificate. If your osteopathic therapist is not a doctor or alternative practitioner, we will need a doctor’s certificate (no prescribed form needed) or private prescription indicating that osteopathic treatment is necessary, in order for us to reimburse some of your costs. Some doctors charge a fee for issuing a private prescription. Unfortunately we cannot reimburse you the costs of this.
We will then check the osteopath’s qualifications as a first step. The therapist must verify with us that they have a certain qualification and are a member of a professional osteopathic association recognised by us or are at least eligible for such membership. If they meet these quality standards, your reimbursement will be transferred to your bank account in a few days.
Invoice reimbursement
After receiving osteopathic treatment, your osteopath will send you a private invoice. You first pay the invoice yourself and then submit this invoice – along with the doctor’s certificate, if necessary – to SBK for reimbursement. In order for your request to be processed quickly, please upload the documents in Meine SBK. Alternatively you can find our postal address and a postage paid envelope
Frequently asked questions about osteopathy
You will always need a doctor's prescription if your qualified osteopathic therapist does not have a basic medical or alternative medical profession, for example physiotherapists. If this is the case, please make an appointment with your doctor's practice before the treatment. They can issue you with a private prescription or an informal medical certificate stating that osteopathic treatment is necessary. Without such a prescription, we are unfortunately not allowed to contribute to the costs. We have listed the basic qualification for all osteopaths in our osteopath search. For physiotherapists, there is also a note that a doctor's prescription must be submitted for reimbursement.
Our qualification check is person-specific and therefore does not automatically apply to all therapists in a practice. Therefore, please make sure that you go directly to an osteopath approved by us. Of course, we also check the qualifications of other therapists in the osteopathic practice you are visiting.
Not all osteopaths approved by us have given us their consent for online publication. However, there are more osteopathic practices where you can receive reimbursement from us. It is best to ask
